The LaLaurie Mansion
Madame Delphine LaLaurie was the beautiful wife to a doctor. She was known for her grace, style and love for entertaining grand parties at her glorious mansion. Anyone who knew Delphine, immediately loved and admired her. People could not wait to be invited to one of her parties. However, Madame LaLaurie's true colors were not yet known.
One day, the little slave girl Leah, was brushing her master's hair. The brush got caught and pulled Delphine's hair ever so slightly. Delphine had a terrible temper and chased Leah with a whip outside. Many onlookers saw the slave run back inside and appear on the third story balcony with Madame LaLaurie right behind her. The child was so frightened of what punishments might await her that she flung herself off of the balcony, to her death. Later, the little girl was buried beneath the trees in the yard by Madame LaLaurie.
Soon the citizens of New Orleans started to talk about the Delphine's mistreatment of her slaves. They noticed that many slaves were going in and not coming out. There was almost a few new slaves at the house every week. What was going on? Many started declining Delphine's party invitations and her reputation started to plummet.

On April 10th, 1834 a fire broke out in the LaLaurie Mansion. When the firefighters arrived, a slave woman was chained in the kitchen, hysterically crying. As the firefighters were putting out the fire, the woman was asked how it was started. She told the men that she was awaiting torture for something she had done earlier that day. In a state of panic, the slave girl somehow started the fire, no longer able to deal with the tortures she had endured. The woman preceded to tell the men that there was a room where many slaves went and none left. As the authorities opened the barred attic door, a grisly discovery was found. What they found was so disturbing, the firefighters ran out of the building. Cops and doctors were called into help. Some of the horrendous images include:
* About a dozen slaves found naked, chained, hung or caged.
*Some were dead and others begged the firefighters to put them out of their misery.
*Body parts were strewn everywhere.
*Heads were found in buckets.
*Unspeakable experiments were performed on some of the bodies.
*One woman was found alive with her limbs broken and reset into strange positions.
*Bones had been pulled and stretched.
*Male and female genitalia were switched.
*One slave had her lips sewn shut, with animal feces placed within her mouth.
*Another man had a hole drilled into his head, with a stick pushed inside the gap.
*Organs had been cut out and wrapped around the waist.
*Eyes were gauged out.
Madame LaLaurie had been doing these heinous crimes. It was believed that her husband had been helping her and some think that he knew and just let her do what she wanted.
After everyone had heard what was going on in the house, a mob started to form outside. The citizens wanted the LaLauries dead. The only problem was, they had escaped during the fire. Some think they went back to Paris and others believe they were in hiding out somewhere in the city. All we know is that Delphine LaLaurie and her husband were never seen again.

Over the years, the many owners have either been murdered, gone crazy or lost money. Could it be that the house is cursed? After the fire, the LaLaurie mansion was abandoned for awhile. Many who have taken over the house have heard moans in the night and even Madame LaLaurie's apparition has been seen. Chains have been heard dragging up and down the stairs. One African American man claimed that Delphine was choking him in the night. Many other people have witnessed her smiling at them.
Nicholas Cage owned the place for awhile but lost money and could no longer afford it. Screams are heard from inside the house and black shadows have been seen walking on the balconies. To this day, at least 70 bodies have been found buried beneath the floorboards, and in the walls. For a while, the mansion was an apartment building, but the paranormal reports were constant and the place was abandoned once again, because tenants refused to occupy it. During this time, witnesses claim to have seen a black naked man in chains attacking them. Children being chased by a phantom with a whip.
A man who owned the mansion, turned it into a furniture store. However, furniture kept disappearing and the owner was losing money. One night, he stayed up to catch the vandals with a shot gun. The next day, the furniture was destroyed and no one had come in, that he had seen. The owner left that day.
The LaLaurie mansion once again became a luxury apartment building. More bodies were found and the activity has seemed to die down a little. Could it be that the tortured slaves have peace now that their bodies have been discovered? I think that is very possible. However, because of some of these violent reports, I would be a little worried to sleep there at night. What about you?
